Rethinking Your Cold Brew Bean Selection

When it comes to the beans used for your cold brew, the extraction process matters. Dark chocolate, thick, and syrupy are the notes accompanying most traditional cold brews. But differentiation can help you stand out from the variety of cold brew consumer offerings. You don’t have to limit your cold brew to only dark roast coffees.

When exploring new brewing methods and partners, don’t assume the same bean you’ve used in an immersion cold brew is the way to go.

With the RAIN brewing process, we find customers go through our recipe development and discover they can achieve a cold coffee they never considered before, featuring different blends and varietals. This opens up a variety of new options to explore.

Bringing Flavor to the Tap

BKON customer Parlor Coffee was looking to develop a great tasting shelf-stable product line utilizing BKON’s KEGX platform to enhance the current products on tap at wholesale accounts. They brought a few coffees to BKON’s product development process, ultimately landing on a blend of offerings from Ethiopia and Kenya.

“We were blown away by the layers of flavor we experienced during our recipe development process with BKON. The final product is absolutely delicious," said AJ Walzer, Co-Founder of Parlor Coffee. “Our collaboration with BKON has been a resounding success, and we’ve experienced significant growth with our cold brew program. BKON have proven themselves worthy of their stellar reputation every step of the way.”

The Right Recipe for Multiple Channels

Caffe Vita wanted to offer something more distinct than the traditional thick, chocolatey cold brew they inherited when their new owners took over in 2020, while also building a diverse multi-channel cold coffee program. They landed on a Guatemalan sourced from Finca Nuevas Vinas that offers flavors of milk chocolate, vanilla bean & tangerine.

“By partnering with BKON we were able to achieve the taste profile that best complimented this coffee as cold brew, and properly showcase what our Guatemalan has to offer as a cold beverage, each sip leaving you wanting more.” said Sam Spillman, Caffe Vita’s Director of Coffee and Customer Experience.

A Seasonal Approach

Ceremony Coffee, together with BKON created a cold brew seasonal release program, similar to what’s seen in the craft beer industry. Ceremony’s offerings include a year-round standard nitro cold brew that they call Mass Appeal, as well as new seasonal single origin releases, giving consumers something fresh and new to look forward to every few months.

“Ceremony’s cold brew is a testament to their passion and skill in creating extraordinary coffees. We could not be more proud of the way they embraced RAIN technology to prove how delicious and unique tasting cold coffee can be.” said BKON co-founder Lou Vastardis.

BKON can help you rethink your cold brew program too. We approach our partnerships with brands in a collaborative way, helping you conceptualize your future cold coffee program, and consider things you may not have before, while helping you with resources along the way.
